The Process of Getting Veneers
A consultation is the first step to your perfect new teeth. At your first appointment, Dr. Starostick will buff a very small amount of tooth enamel to ensure that your new smile lies perfectly in line with your existing teeth and to make sure that proper bonding occurs. What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?
Though altered by the treatment process, the teeth under veneers remain safe. The shells placed over them compensate for the changes made during placement.
Your dentist removes some enamel from the treated teeth before placing your veneers. This removal ensures that your final shells fit your smile and don’t “jut out” oddly. At the same time, its effects are permanent; enamel removed from teeth won’t grow back later.
Thankfully, teeth “prepared” for veneers aren’t at greater risk of cavities. Their fronts are covered by durable porcelain, so they have solid protection from harmful bacteria and plaque. Just note that these teeth will still need maintenance from now on, including twice-daily brushing and once-daily flossing.
Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee With Veneers?
To put things plainly, yes – you’ll still be able to drink coffee after veneer treatment. Your new shells shouldn’t interfere with your daily cup of java.
The truth is that modern veneers are stain-resistant. Being made of non-porous porcelain, they don’t let particles from dark-colored foods and drinks stick to their surfaces much. That means you can drink coffee without fearing that you’ll stain your veneers.
Of course, “stain-resistant” isn’t the same thing as “stain-proof.” Excessive coffee consumption may still discolor your veneers if you don’t act carefully. Given that fact, only have dark-colored drinks in moderation to help your veneers last as long as possible.
Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?
